On the eve of Rileys operation...

I'm a bit worried.
I know normal but...
Riley has seventh nerve palsy meaning he doesn't have the nerve or muscles  on the right side of his face.
He smiles wonky.
Cries with one eye closed.
Can't drink out of a carton or can.
Can do a brilliant one eyebrow raise.
It's an elective surgery, better when they are younger though.
Tomorrow he will have a nerve taken from his foot and placed somehow in face.
Next time he will have a muscle from his chest put in.

I ummed and arred over the surgery.
Couldn't make up my mind until I spoke to a friend who had experienced bells palsy.
He said his girlfriend had a difficult time kissing him as he dribbled.
I can't have Riley dribbling on girls.
Then whilst on holiday Rachel was teaching the boys how to whistle.
Connor can now whistle.
Riley cant :(

So I made the right decision I will have a dribble free kissing and whistling boy after the surgeries.

He who loves the sea so much will swim whatever the weather and in whatever he is wearing!

He never poses for a photo sensibly!

and never has a cold head at night!

ps: had a great holiday, the weather was gorgeous, three full days on the beach, no sewing I was to busy building sand castles!

  2. Riley poses like my girls do. (Sorry to say that they still do it and they are 24 and 33). He is adorable even if he will not pose properly for a picture.
All my thoughts will be coming at you and Riley for a successful surgery and a rapid recovery.

  3. I am right there with you and Riley. My middle son underwent surgery at 17 and I was a wreck. Sending good thoughts and feelings.

  4. It sure is hard on Moms when their little ones have surgery, so I will definitely be thinking of you and hoping that he has a speedy recovery. Please keep us informed even it is is just one sentence.

  5. My thoughts are with you and Riley as he goes through this surgery. He's clearly a great kid and will need to be good at kissing all those girls (whos hearts he will break with that sweet face) down the road. :)

  6. Isn't modern medicine simply amazing?!!! I didn't know such surgery was possible! Riley will be smiling and whistling at the girls soon, and as cute as he is, they will be smiling back! I'm praying for him and the family, and especially his doctors! May all go well for all of you! ---"Love"

  7. Elective surgery is always a big decision, but I'm sure you're doing the right thing. :-)
